I have beaten yet another game! *shocked Pikachu face*

I beat Zodiacats on normal difficulty, and it made me cry. Because it tells a short story about a cat who gets adopted, and IDK I am feeling my feelings a bit right now. (Listening to a couple of songs my brain deems vaguely schmoopy also made me cry on the same day, so, yeah. That's where my brain is at the moment).

Anyway, it's a very short, not terribly difficult puzzle game with CATS. And pictures thereof, hand drawn, and they're really lovely.

Also on the games front, I am slowly working my way through Cats Organised Neatly. I watched Johnny stream it a while back, and then promptly bought it for myself (it doesn't always happen with games they play, as our tastes do intersect, but not entirely, so sometimes it happens). And while playing I discovered that the hitboxes on the cats are a bit weird, and that my laptop's touchpad did NOT like it at all. So I bought myself a cute sea green bluetooth keyboard and mouse that I have been eyeing up for literal months. And that seems to work okay for me.

I also bought a laptop stand at the same time, because I am intending to set my computer up on a table properly, so I'm not hunched, shrimp-like, over it either in my armchair, or on my bed. I have done this at points in the past, and it's seemed to work, so there's no harm in doing it again. And it will obviously be better for my posture.

Other than that, I've done a whole lot of nothing with my time off work - intentionally - I frikken needed this rest. The most I did was some chores that needed doing, and weren't going to wear me out. It's my own fault it ended up being two chunks instead of one straight one (the next one will be; I'm determined). The weather has improved, so it's sunny, but it's also colder, and very autumnal feeling, and I LOVE IT.

And that's all I have to really say for now!

Whew! A whole week got away from me. I am a little behind on the Accidental Advent, but I will have time this week to catch up. ^^;;

(Sunday's belated post)

Yesterday was our annual family expedition to Eastern Market in Detroit, so my fridge is filled with vegetables. At some point shortly, all stir-fry all the time, lol. I am very excited. I didn't mean to buy as much as I did, but everything looked so good!

It's Tokyo Game Show week and as usual, I took a couple of days off for it. Honestly, the official streaming schedule is pretty anemic. There are two or three things I might watch, and one S-E stream. I'm not sure who else might have streaming presentations that I want to watch...

(but since it's my ~annual 'clean the utility room' weekend, I'll also be doing that!)

I finished my [community profile] iddyiddybangbang project and will be posting it later in the week! I took one of the amnesty dates both because I was So Busy last weekend/week and because I just wasn't done. But now I am (and I suppose if I'd not been so busy I might've finished then?) and I've also leveled up my time management and project management skills.

Yeah, mostly I'm just thrilled to have the Project done!

1. I decided to stay home today. Pretty much all the tasks I've been working on are now at the step of waiting for someone else to get back to me so I can do something else, so if I'd gone to work it would have been sending out reminders and poking around a bit of stuff here and there, and I just didn't feel like it. Even though taking three weeks off earlier this year knocked down my PTO balance enough that I don't need to worry about it maxing out immediately, it will max out before we take our planned trip next year, so I've got to use some days here and there to knock it down a bit more anyway.

2. Since it's not a usual day off, I didn't have any usual chores or errands on my to-do list and mostly just read and played Donky Kong Bananza (which I am still enjoying a lot). I did take a midday walk, which was much nicer in our neighborhood than at work, since we actually have a lot of shade if I stick to certain streets, which I was able to do since I was not going anywhere specific, just walking to walk.

3. I finished up another puzzle this morning, the first of those new Disney ones we got. It turns out they have rounded corners, which I wasn't expecting. Carla did the whole border, so I didn't actually have to deal with them, but since they're just a bit curved, I don't think it probably makes too much of a difference in difficulty.

4. Ollie's such a sweet guy.

1. For lunch today we walked up to the neighborhood independent market, which does grilling in the parking lot on weekends during the summer. Well, I guess summer is officially over as they were not set up today. :( We'd been hoping to get a tri-tip sandwich, but I guess we'll have to wait for next summer. Instead we went a few doors down to the restaurant I went to yesterday, and got another grilled cheese, this time (since we'd already been in the mood for a hearty beef sandwich) a grilled cheese with short ribs and pickled onions. It was so good! So we're two for two on that place now.

2. I had some nice snuggle time with Ollie this morning. Actually both yesterday morning and this morning. He just hopped up on my lap and napped for a while. *_*

3. This is a new box. Exactly the same shape as two other boxes we already have in the living room, but everyone is super into it, so I guess we can't get rid of this one now lol.

Trying the dreamwidth thing again!

I mostly post about:

my personal life, thoughts, day to day stuff. Sometimes mental health/trauma related stuff. Crafts, occasional outfit photos. Cat pics. I also recently did a huge family photo archiving project, so I want to share some cool old photos and what I know about the people in them.

My hobbies are:

I like dabbling in different types of crafts. Primarily into making beaded jewelry, but I've also been learning stained glass this year and that is really cool. Trying to get into reading again. Taking photos, doing home DIYs, watching a lot of movies and TV. I like fashion, but don't dress up much lately (trying to fix that).

My fandoms are:

not a huge fandom head in the traditional sense anymore. I'm a diehard My Chemical Romance fan since I was literally 10 years old. Also a big Nicolas Cage fan, almost finished with a quest to see every single movie of his. Can't think of many others off the top of my head but I fixate on stuff for a while and then forget about it.

I'm looking to meet people who:

are also neurodivergent (audhd here). have a wealth of different experiences and points of view. anyone who is willing to read and occasionally comment.

My posting schedule tends to be:

I'm aiming for once a week this time around, but may be more or less depending on what's going on in my life.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are:

No TERFs, no centrists or republicans, no Zionists. I don't care if you're personally religious but I'm not and don't appreciate that perspective in regards to my own life. No Harry Potter fans, it's lame if you're still into that given... everything. Don't be a shithead in general. And probably no one under 21.

Before adding me, you should know: Hmm. As I said, there may be the occasional post about mental health/trauma stuff. I'm also regrettably a true crime enjoyer, i rarely talk about it but if I do I'll tag. Unsure about anything else that might be relevant

1. It was pretty nice weather today. Mostly overcast and cool. Verrrrrry muggy, though. I took two walks this morning, one around lunchtime, and one this evening, and only the final one didn't leave me drenched.

2. Carla is mostly over her cold (kept testing negative the whole time, so feel pretty confident saying it was not covid) and I still haven't come down with anything, so I am tentatively considering myself safe. I do think the ventilation in the summer makes a big difference.

3. We got lunch from a new-to-us restaurant nearby. It's a place we've walked by for years and just never actually checked out. One recent time when we were walking by we looked at the menu (it's a brunch and lunch place, mostly sandwiches and salads) and everything looked really good, so we decided we should make an effort to actually go there. Carla didn't feel like going out for lunch, so I walked up there and got a sandwich to bring home for us. It was a grilled cheese with fig jam and was soooooo good. Definitely want to check out more from their menu.

4. Kind of disappointing morning at the farmers market as the place I get fruit leather from had no fruit leather (though they did have watermelon lemonade, which had been sold out last week by the time I got there since I went late) and the almond stand was not there at all, which was especially annoying as I am fully out of their delicious orange almond butter so if I want toast this week I'll have to have jam (which is fine, as we actually have a ton of jam that should get used up, but the almond butter is more filling). Hopefully they're back next week. I did get some new tasty desserts, though, including passionfruit bars (like lemon bars but with passionfruit).

5. Tuxie enjoying the shade this morning.

Currently Reading
The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science
32%. Middle grade book written by Kate McKinnon of SNL. Three sisters have been kicked out of every etiquette school in town and are about to be shipped off to one in Austria when they get an invite to a new etiquette school they'd never heard of, which turns out to be a school for young mad scientists in disguise. It's amusing so far.

Lone Women
6%. Historical horror about a young black woman who has to flee after her parents' deaths, with a mysterious trunk in tow. I've only just started but it seems very interesting so far.

The War on Alcohol: Prohibition and the Rise of the American State
19%.

Recently Finished
The Murder Next Door
I enjoyed this. Definitely will read the sequel.

A Gallery of Rogues
This was fun. I hope there are eventually more books in the series.

The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter
I really liked this! And it was great as an audiobook, too, read by Kate Reading who also does the Lady Sherlock books. The daughters of Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde team up with the daughters/creations of Dr Moreau, Victor Frankenstein, and Dr Rappaccini (from a story I was not familiar with), along with Holmes and Watson, to solve a string of murders in Whitechapel. This was so much fun and there are two more books in the series that I'm really looking forward to reading.

The Phantom of New York
Very mediocre middle grade book about a boy who moves into a hotel in New York in a sort of half-hearted witness protection program after his father discovers his boss is doing shady things. The boy eventually finds out that he is descended from the Phantom of New York, a superhero from a hundred years ago who protected the city. Not going to bother with the rest of the series.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru vol. 1-2
Cute high school f/f manga about a girl who starts dating another girl in student council, despite feeling like she doesn't really understand love. These were on a free promo on Amazon Japan, but I'm not sure I was that into it that I need to get the rest of the volumes (eight in total).

Bibliomania
Horror manga about a girl who gets sucked into a book that will kill everyone once it has sucked in 666 people (she's 400 something). There is no way out except to go through each page of the book to the beginning, but that causes mutations and eventually death the closer you get. She chooses that anyway. Interesting twist towards the end, but I can't say I particularly enjoyed it. It was okay.

There is a decided lack of whimsy in my life and man, it's a huge bummer. Today feels especially damning, so I'm gonna make a post!

I'm waiting to sign the paperwork but I've got a job at a nationwide pet supply store. I'll start as a part-time bather and after at least six months and 200 baths, I'll be applying for the grooming academy. I never really thought I'd go back into dog grooming but I have experience, enjoy it, plus it's pretty AI proof, so. You know! Also I love interacting with dogs and breaking down my day into assignments will be good, I think! The hiring manager was off yesterday and will be off today and Sunday, so I'll probably have to wait until Monday to move forward with the paperwork (I got a verbal confirmation, we were just waiting on the background check, which came through yesterday). A little frustrating because I'm really eager to get the show in the road, but I will try to remain patient. ;3;

Related, was able to talk to my doctor about my extreme panic and anxiety, and she upped my prescriptions so here's hoping that helps! I would very much like for it to! I need to find an actual therapist but medication working would also be very good! This house needs an income.

Yesterday I went out and used the little wood chipper to chew up a ton of the old, dead blackberry vines we took out earlier this year. It's not hard but it's tedious and they're pretty stabby. It's something I've been meaning to do for a while so I'm glad I finally found the energy and attention to do it!

Today we're going to a farm fest at one of the local community gardens. It should be a nice little community event, I'm looking forward to music and food, lol.

I'm participating in Kinktober this year, is anyone else? I'm working off the official listWhich I'll put under here since it's explicit ) and I'm pretty excited! I've already started working on mine, since I'm very slow, lmao. They'll all be in black and white since I don't want to try to worry about colors (and I mean, it's a play on Inktober, and I know ink comes in all colors, the tradition is black) and I'm having so much fun. I'm also trying more dynamic poses. I'm planning on posting them daily on bsky, although they're updating their ToS to be pretty shitty towards pornography. :\ I'm so frustrated with how the internet is going (and also everything that is terrible that is happening) and I just want to be able to draw and post porn in peace. But that's not how things are going.

AT LEAST DW IS STILL HERE. <3 <3 <3 Once I'm getting a steady income again, I'm going to put a little towards DW like twice a month or something. We've got to try to protect the spaces we have left. I'll still be posting on Bsky for as long as I can, but. It's a bummer!

back again!

i post about: i'm into a lot of things but what i end up posting about are monthly periodical-types of the music i discover and listen to (free for anybody to access) and the general musings and feelings of an anxious college guy (behind an access lock). i might someday make a dedicated post about history or politics or literature but i rarely feel like i have any meaningful contribution to what could be said. that's a very broad characterization but check my about me on my profile for a slightly more detailed synopsis

my hobbies are: my whole life revolves around music, more or less :] i listen to music extensively (squid771 on last.fm and rateyourmusic), collect vinyl records, and go to college studying sound engineering (i'm a senior!). i have an off-again, on-again recording project that i'll someday release something under. i play guitar, i'm an untrained singer, and i play various keyboard instruments. i always try to watch movies but usually that means i'll just gather a bunch, watch 2 in one night, and then go 6 months without watching another. i'm trying to read more (5 books read this year; infinitely times more than the past couple of years), i'm big into history (currently researching the george mcgovern 1972 campaign, and concurrently the history of how the word socialism/communism got such a negative connotation in the U.S.), and i like to walk around at night, or in the rain, or both. i try to appreciate the little things. i want to write, and learn esperanto, but i've never found enough consistent motivation to try either

my fandoms are: i haven't really considered myself to be really big enough on anything to be part of a fandom, but some of my favorite bands/artists are fishmans, stereolab, broadcast, nick drake, elliott smith, the radio dept., the field mice (all of sarah records really), brian eno, yo la tengo, ichiko aoba, and many many others! i could talk about music for days and days. as far as like forms of media go i'm big into the trails series (games 1-5, trails and crossbell; cold steel ruined the franchise), deltarune (haven't played undertale but i generally know what happens by osmosis), off, team fortress 2, and disco elysium; and then cowboy bebop, samurai champloo, NGE, general 2000s adult swim-core type stuff for anime

i'm looking to meet people who: i put a post up here about 6 months ago when i first started this account and i did get a lot of responses but nearly all of the people that replied to me aren't active anymore. i'm looking for people to really connect with and are in this site for the long haul (or at least for a while). i'm not too picky about sharing interests but having mutual appreciation for something always helps. the main thing though is that i'm just trying to make more friends :]

my posting schedule tends to be: whenever i feel like there's enough going enough in my life to post about something. this is usually like 2 to 5 times a month. i do tend to get wordy in my posts for what that's worth

when I add people, my dealbreakers are: i'm a very vague socialist so i'm not particularly chill with MAGA types or people who are just unnecessarily rude but i think there's like only 2 people on this site with those beliefs anyways

before adding me, you should know: i don't really comment much but i read everything that's posted. i get in my own head about responding to/posting comments and not feeling like i have enough to say. but i'm always looking to talk to more people and come out of my shell
i'm very depressed and mildly autistic and can be in my head a lot of the time, so the posts behind my access lock can get mopey and despondent. i'm doing the best i can to grapple with my emotions and the world around me so a little bit of empathy goes a long way. we're all going through something

1. It's the weekend! And I was able to come home early today, too, which was nice. A lot of the tasks I was working on this week are now in the hands of the IT team for the next step, so while I had a few little things I could do today, I just went home after my afternoon meeting around three or so.

2. We got two multipacks of the new Across the Spider-Verse Lego minifigs in the mail today. Carla's had some good luck with the last few sets of blind box minifigs and got hardly any dupes (I think one set was actually no dupes at all) but this time we did get a few.

If anyone wants these figures, I will ship them anywhere in the US for free. Just let me know.

1. We were supposed to get a lot of rain, but that seems to have blown over. We did get a little rain last night (I was awake in bed to hear it, which is always lovely) and it was raining again this morning when I went out for my walk, so instead of walking around the neighborhood and getting wet (I did take an umbrella but it would still be blowing in from the sides) I walked over to the parking structure across the street and just did laps in there for about the same distance I usually walk.

2. Just one more day before the weekend!

3. We've been getting some really delicious grapes lately. They're called autumn crisp, which is not a variety I'd heard of before, but they live up to their name. Suuuuuuper crisp, which is just how I like my grapes, and a nice sweet flavor (I don't like them too sour).

1. I got my covid and flu shots today. Since I didn't have any meetings or other time-sensitive things this morning at work, I just stopped in the same medical offices where I'd made my appointment for next week and asked if they were doing walk-ins, too, and they were. Had to wait about ten minutes or so, but otherwise it was over pretty quickly. Carla hasn't been able to get hers yet because she's sick. D: (First test said not covid, but she's going to keep testing throughout the duration to make sure. So far I am not showing any signs of catching it, but we'll see. It is hard to avoid each other in our smallish house, though at least since it's summer all the windows and doors are open and the fans going all the time, so there's a lot of air circulation.)

2. Molly just loves this scratcher/ball toy. Sometimes for the scratcher, once in a while for the ball, but mostly just to lie on. It's apparently very comfy.

Yesterday, I went to Burnley to upgrade my phone contract to SIM only, and buy myself a new phone.

Between that, the rent, a few other things, and the fact that I have to go back to the dentist next week, I have spent A LOT of money in a very short space of time, and I don't like it at all. I am glad I can manage to do this, thanks to my job, but SHEESH it feels very uncomfortable.

(That said, I just checked my bank account and actually my spending wasn't too ridiculous? My balance now versus what it was when my last pay went in wasn't actually too different - I was expecting it to vary by WAY more than it did).

Anyway, the SIM only deal is £25 per month less than what I was paying, so it will even out in the end, and I can afford it.

As for the dentist - I had to go for a check-up, and I need a filling, as the tooth he'd previously identified as cracked now has a very visible chip out of it. Although I qualify for NHS treatment, I don't get any help with it, as I'm working*, so I've already paid for the check-up, and the filling will be twice as much, YAY. On the plus side: it's pay day this Friday, and also this is my first filling in well over a decade.

So yeah, the phone I ended up getting was a Samsung A26 in mint green. I haven't finished setting it up properly yet, but omg it's so nice to have a phone that functions how I want it to, and I don't feel like I'm struggling with all the time. AMAZING.

(My old phone is a Pixel 7a, and I do not like it ONE BIT. Apologies if you have a Pixel and you like it. I just don't think it was the phone for me).

Also while I was out, I did a bit of shopping for my nephew's birthday (not for a while yet), and feel like I failed at that, because I've seen him so little over the last twelve months (for understandable reasons), that I don't know what he's into these days. I've got him some Pokemon and Mario stuff, but that feels very predictable.

I also - because I am a fool of epic proportions, and somewhat predictable myself - bought myself a squishmallow. It is a frog, and his name is Robert, which amuses me for a variety of reasons, not least because I have a beanbag frog I've had since I was a teenager that I called Robbie, after Robbie Williams. Because I was very into Take That when my mum bought him for me. So I sort of felt I had to buy him. And then when I got home and read the bio on his tag, I saw that he has the same birthday as my dad. Which amuses me even more, given how little he and I got on together.

If you want to see what he looks like, I posted a pic on my bsky yesterday.

Anyway, all that aside, I am on holiday from work (apart from the bit where I'm not), and it has rained every day so far, because that is just my luck (and also autumn in the UK). Also my meet up with Sarah had to be cancelled because her husband got ill, and she didn't know if she'd pick up what he has, and obviously didn't want to pass it on. So I am thwarted in being social! (for now)

~

*I could apply for an HC2 certificate, but I still probably wouldn't get totally free treatment. I have applied for one! I don't know! I guess it would at least help with my prescriptions?

1. I slipped and fell during my walk this evening, but thankfully I just got my clothes wet and skinned my knee, nothing serious. I was walking down a hill and could see that someone had been watering and got it all over the sidewalk, but there weren't any puddles I didn't anticipate there being any issue walking through it, but some of the sidewalk squares were completely smooth rather than rough as they usually are, so there was no grip to them and I slid and fell and scraped one knee. It looked bad but when I got home to clean it up, it turned out most of the mess was dirt and there was only a little scraping and bleeding. Could have been a lot worse! Thankfully I had my phone with me and could have called Carla to pick me up if I hadn't been able to walk, but I made it home on my own.

2. I had several meetings today, which didn't leave a lot of time for actual work, but I did finish another of the tasks I've been assigned. I'm making progress!

3. Jasper's so casual.
