Gonna start that Video game meme I was talking about before. I don't trust myself to update every day, so I think I'm going to do one entry a week, five questions at a time. Sound fair enough?

Prompts below the cut )

1: Do you try to stay away from walkthroughs?
Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't. It depends on the game. When I do use them it's more for extra things like quests and hidden goodies, and also for things that would be really tough without a guide (ex: completing the timeline in Radiant Historia, those vague, annoying puzzles in Persona Q). I try not to rely on them for EVERY single little thing, because I feel like becoming TOO dependent on a guide can take away from the experience. I used to love buying the strategy guides to the games I played when I was younger, and I still love them as art pieces, but I very rarely get them these days.

2: Company you're always loyal to?
If you read this journal at all I think you know I love Nintendo the most, even though it doesn't always make sense. Playing mainly JRPGs, you would think I would be more loyal to Playstation hardware, but no, Nintendo always gets me in the end.

3: Best game you've ever played?
Not favorite, but best, huh? So I have to think more objectively? Ugh. In that case, I'm going to go with Okami or FFVI. Okami is a wonder, and FFVI is arguably THE best installment of THE most iconic series in my favorite genre. It's got my favorite FF characters, my favorite FF OST, and probably my favorite FF story. Maybe Chrono Trigger deserves a nod too? That game is damn near perfect. Game just turned 20 and it still feels fresh. Thinking about more recent games, I would also say Link Between Worlds. It's probably my personal favorite Zelda game so far.

4: Worst game you've ever played?
Quest 64. I was so excited an RPG was coming to the N64 at the time. I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and just dreaming of playing it. It was the first new game I ever saved up the money to buy myself, and I worked hard that summer to earn the 70 or so bucks I needed for the game. Too bad it turned out to be a half assed piece of crap. Money was not easy to come by for me at that age, and if felt like such a waste.

5: A popular series/game you just can't get into no matter how much you try?
The Tales of series. I understand why they are well liked, but I just can't. I've tried Phantasia, Eternia, Abyss, Graces, Symphonia...none of them have really been able to do it for me. Not really sure why, just something about the series doesn't click with me.
