A little late because of the holiday mess, but here it is! My annual tradition of filling out an old and way out-of-date end-of-year survey circa 2004.

2015: Boring in the first half and SUPER FUN in the second )

In other news, getting back into the swing of things post-holidays. Currently: Pulling through work. Enjoying eating at home. Playing Sen no Kiseki on the Vita. Reading The Left Hand of Darkness. Feeling an epic Adventures of Pete and Pete rewatch brewing.

In one week from now I will be at Tokyo Disneyland. We got our tickets in the mail the other day and the hype is REAL.

If you comment here with the words "I wanna play" I will assign you a number from 15-30 of facts about yourself to post about yourself in your journal.

[personal profile] torachan gave me 22!

Beware. This got loooooong. Not really checked for errors, so I apologize. Might go back and fix later, may not. )

For those new to my journal, these facts might be a good way to know certain things about me, but you can also check my intro post tag for one recent intro, and also one old, outdated, tl;dr one.

The not so exciting finale: 26 through 30 )

I'll talk about the party I went to next time, but I do want to say that today is Wii U/Xenoblade X day! Or rather, it was really yesterday, but today is the day my package is set to arrive. I am so pumped!

In other news, today marks the first day of new kids classes, and I am naturally feeling a bit nervous. The lessons themselves are always easy, but everything else about the first week is just a big ball of stress. The week is just beginning, but I'm already looking forward to my recovery time this weekend! XO

Oh man, the Nintendo direct that has been rumored for WEEKS has finally been announced! It airs 7am tomorrow morning in Japan, and I think I'm gonna wake up early to watch it live. I'm so excited! I'm sure it will mostly be info about games we already know about, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for one surprise. Perhaps the next new Nintendo 3DS exclusive game? Xenoblade 3D is upon us, so I think it's about time they talk about the next one. I'm so excited!

Anyway, on to the meme!

Prompts and my week 1 answers can be found here.

6: A game that's changed you the most?
Xenoblade, which is extremely appropriate since the 3DS port is coming out tomorrow. It's the game that got be back into games. I still played them here and there, but from ages 18 to 25ish I wasn't super into them. I never beat any of the games I did play, giving up by about the halfway point. I still liked the idea of playing them but I felt like my golden age with the hobby had passed, and that I was left behind. I felt games were getting too big and too complicated and that many modern RPGs were too overwhelming for me. But then I played Xenoblade, and it filled me a sense of wonder and amazement that I hadn't felt in a ten years, since I played Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast as a teen. It was a game that reminded me of the way games used to make me feel in the old days, while also holding my hand and showing me that new games didn't have to be so overwhelming after all. The game means a lot to me, and will always hold a very special place in my fanboyish heart.

7: A game you'll never forget?
This is hard to get a grasp on, as honestly I'll never forget ANY of my favorites. If we are talking about a story and/or ending that really hit somewhere deep in my emotional center, then perhaps Nier or Mother 3. But really there are a lot of games that made me feel things at the time I played them. I dunno.

8: Best soundtrack?
I am a BIG fan of the FFVI soundtrack, and I have been since I first played it. Terra's Theme still gives me chills sometimes. It's always been my favorite FF soundtrack by a longshot, unchallenged until I played X last year. I still like VI a bit better, but X's soundtrack is also supurb.

The Nier soundtrack also hits like a ton of bricks, and now I'm not sure if I like FFVI's soundtrack or this one better. All the tracks are good, but as a sample: here's Kaine's theme. I think I like Emil's a bit more, but I feel like I've posted multiple versions of it here already.

9: A game you turn your volume off every time you play it?
I used to always turn off the music when I played Phantasy Star Online on the Gamecube. Not because it was bad, but because I mostly played in the same area, which always had the same track running on loop and it got kind of old. I used to always listen to The Flaming Lips and The Shins on the stereo instead. Listening to Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots these days still makes me think of that game.

10: A game you've completely given up on?
Oh god, I dunno. Nothing comes to mind except my recent failure with Legend of Legacy. I wanted to enjoy it much more, but in the end I couldn't. I don't like it when games are too punishing (as such, I stay FAR AWAY from games like Dark Souls. Do not think that series is for me).
nintendoh: (Terra)
Gonna start that Video game meme I was talking about before. I don't trust myself to update every day, so I think I'm going to do one entry a week, five questions at a time. Sound fair enough?

Prompts below the cut )

1: Do you try to stay away from walkthroughs?
Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't. It depends on the game. When I do use them it's more for extra things like quests and hidden goodies, and also for things that would be really tough without a guide (ex: completing the timeline in Radiant Historia, those vague, annoying puzzles in Persona Q). I try not to rely on them for EVERY single little thing, because I feel like becoming TOO dependent on a guide can take away from the experience. I used to love buying the strategy guides to the games I played when I was younger, and I still love them as art pieces, but I very rarely get them these days.

2: Company you're always loyal to?
If you read this journal at all I think you know I love Nintendo the most, even though it doesn't always make sense. Playing mainly JRPGs, you would think I would be more loyal to Playstation hardware, but no, Nintendo always gets me in the end.

3: Best game you've ever played?
Not favorite, but best, huh? So I have to think more objectively? Ugh. In that case, I'm going to go with Okami or FFVI. Okami is a wonder, and FFVI is arguably THE best installment of THE most iconic series in my favorite genre. It's got my favorite FF characters, my favorite FF OST, and probably my favorite FF story. Maybe Chrono Trigger deserves a nod too? That game is damn near perfect. Game just turned 20 and it still feels fresh. Thinking about more recent games, I would also say Link Between Worlds. It's probably my personal favorite Zelda game so far.

4: Worst game you've ever played?
Quest 64. I was so excited an RPG was coming to the N64 at the time. I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and just dreaming of playing it. It was the first new game I ever saved up the money to buy myself, and I worked hard that summer to earn the 70 or so bucks I needed for the game. Too bad it turned out to be a half assed piece of crap. Money was not easy to come by for me at that age, and if felt like such a waste.

5: A popular series/game you just can't get into no matter how much you try?
The Tales of series. I understand why they are well liked, but I just can't. I've tried Phantasia, Eternia, Abyss, Graces, Symphonia...none of them have really been able to do it for me. Not really sure why, just something about the series doesn't click with me.

It's been so cold this week. The temperature in March is always so up and down, it's near impossible to adjust. It should be warming up next week though! Hopefully this will be the end of the cold and spring will officially begin, but who knows?

Haven't been mentioning it much, but I'm still chugging along with Spanish at Duolingo. On a three week streak! But it's starting to get to that point where I realize I should probably focus less on new lessons and do more review lessons every week, because some of the vocabulary just isn't sticking.

Anyway, letter meme! [personal profile] torachan gave me G. If you want a letter, just drop me a comment.

G things! )

Speaking of [personal profile] torachan, he also left a big response in my last entry with a bunch if 80s Japanese music recommendations, mp3s included! If any of you are interested, check it out! Still getting through the playlist I made of everything, but it's a lot of fun so far!

Katsushi is back, and he came bearing a box of Tokyo Bananas, my favorite Tokyo treat. It's good to have him back, and yummy to have the sweets. :3

Fannishly this week I've been mainly reading manga? Got through vol 5 of Eden, finished the first wide ban Patlabor, started on All Rounder Meguru vol 2, and read Matsumoto Taiyou's GOGO Monster (so awesome!). Yay manga!

Anyway, meme time! From [personal profile] fujicori.

things things things )

In other news, the week is progressing. I'm finally getting close to normal sleeping habits again. Work is...going. At home I've been picking away at some anime. I finished up the Tenchi OVAs and started with some Digimon, though I have to slow that down because Digimon gets really tedious if you don't take it in small bites. I forgot what a treasure trove of bad jokes the English dub is and I want to enjoy it as much as I can! This morning I watched the Armitage III OVA and that was highly entertaining. The story was a bit weak, but the cyberpunk atmosphere was great and Armitage is a badass. I really love 90s Pioneer stuff.

I watched the dub for extra nostalgia. I have a real soft spot for some of those dubs from the earlier days. Even if they were sometimes awful, haha. And I really love some of those cheesy old English version songs that went along with them. I stoleborrowedforlife my friend's P Anime Best of Best CD in high school and that became my virtual nostalgia machine. I KNOW ALL THOSE DAMN SONGS.

I'm rambling now, so I'll end it here. Have a nice day!
